Challenges facing Minnesota’s hog farmers are the focus as Congressman Collin Peterson and Governor Tim Walz stop in Worthington this afternoon (1pm):

President Trump has ordered meat processing plants to stay open, but state Health Commissioner Jan Malcolm says while that industry is important to farmers and the food supply, the president’s order…
…”at a time when we’re seeing such explosive increases in numbers of (COVID-19) cases and the impact on surrounding communities, it seems problematic to say the least.”

But State Representative Tim Miller from Prinsburg warns farmers are having to euthanize their hogs because processors can’t take them:

“If they are rendering and composting all these hogs, what are we gonna have when this changes? …What’s gonna happen with our meat supply coming down the road soon?”
