Top Walz administration officials defend the decision to leave Minnesota’s stay-at-home order and restaurant/bar closures in place, even as protesters gathered outside the Governor’s Residence and circled the State Capitol in their vehicles, one with a sign reading “Walz-ing our way into economic ruin.” State Health Commissioner Jan Malcolm says about re-opening the state’s economy:

“The governor has said nobody is more eager for that than he is, but doing that prematurely or where we don’t have the measures in place to assess the safety of a workplace can really backfire and put you in a worse situation than we are today.”

Malcolm says the next decision point is a couple weeks away and “it’s just hard to speculate” on whether some restrictions could be lifted at that time.
