State health officials are monitoring a COVID-19 outbreak at the JBS Meat Packing plant in Worthington. Kris Ehresman is an infectious disease specialist with the Minnesota Department of Health

“As of Thursday, we had 19 cases in Nobles County. Today we’re over 30 cases,” said Ehresman. “And as we’ve interviewed individuals we’ve determined a number of these individuals were employees at the JBS plant.”

Ehresman says representatives from the Department of Health are already on the scene.

“We have four staff on-site working with plant management,” said Ehresman. “The plant has been screening and we’ll be working with them to make sure everything is going well with the screening.”

Ehresman says the goal is to keep the plant operational and avoid a shutdown. The Smithfield Meat Packing Plant in Sioux Falls shut down last week.
