State leaders have announced that Minnesota lawmakers will get a budget projection update in May–months earlier than the typical November release.

“We know that the coronavirus is impacting our state’s economy–businesses small and large, and also the lives of our family, friends and neighbors, but we need to put every resource into combatting this virus and ensuring that those fighting on the frontlines have what they need to do so that we can plan appropriately.”

Minnesota Management and Budget Commissioner Myron Frans says it’s too soon to tell if the state will be running at a deficit when the projection comes out in May.
