As the dairy industry is being impacted by the coronavirus, there’s a local push to get help from the federal government.   Lucas Sjostrum is the executive director of the Minnesota Milk Producers Association:

“We pitched a program called the Dairy CORE program, CORE standing for coronavirus recovery. So the Dairy CORE program would essentially just give producers a direct payment because different parts of the country want different things.”

The immediate payment would be based on March milk production. Sjostrum says they are hoping the federal government will use money from the COVID stimulus bill and every day that goes by with no action makes the problem worse for the farmer.
