Top Republicans are pushing back hard after Governor Tim Walz extended his stay-at-home order to May 4th.
The second most powerful person in Minnesota government, Senate Republican Majority Leader Paul Gazelka tweeted that Minnesota is ready for the COVID surge: Three thousand hospital beds here, compared to New York State needing less than five thousand I-C-U beds at the height of its crisis. Gazelka asks, why shut down Minnesota business for a New-York-sized surge?
The governor responds all of the data show him he can’t risk lifting the stay-at-home order at this time:
“My heart breaks for the people worried about their economic well-being, but you can’t get frustrated, go on a hunch, and throw caution to the wind and pretend like our neighbors’ lives are somehow disposable.”
