One of the challenges for state and public health officials in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic is the unknown. Minnesota Department of Health director Jan Malcom says there’s only so much information that is available with a five-month-old virus.
“One of the things that researchers around the globe are looking at is how much is the virus operating differently in the countries that are later into the outbreak as compared to those on the front end,” said Malcom. “How much of the earlier data will be predicted here as compared to the virus continuing to evolve? That’s just an example of the complexity we’re dealing with when trying to forecast things.”
Malcom says they’re attempting to analyze data as well analyzing on the ground scenarios to determine the next step in their plans.
