State officials are predicting 40 to 80 percent of Minnesotans will contract COVID-19. Kris Ehresman, the infectious disease specialist with the Minnesota Department of Health, was asked where they come up with that projection.

“Each year, we expect to see five to 20 percent of the population infected with influenza,” said Ehresman. “When you have a population that is completely naïve to a new virus that’s why we expect to see these higher numbers because no one has any immunologic history with the virus.”

Minnesota Department of Health officials say there are 262 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the state but emphasize due to limited tests they expect that total is significantly higher.
