Governor Tim Walz has signed an executive order prohibiting price gouging on essential goods “necessary for the health, safety and welfare of the public”:
“We were seeing hand sanitizer average for 60 dollars a bottle. Others were hawking one-dollar-a-squirt for hand sanitizer, and these things are real. That’s not how we are. Many of them can come from out-of-state. This gives the state and the attorney general the ability to crack down.”
Walz says the state is also tracking supplies of personal protective equipment so they can get additional stock to hospitals and other medical providers before they run out. Walz says at this point a strategic national stockpile has not materialized.
