There are just under 200 days until travelers will be required to have a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license to board a plane and enter certain federal buildings. In order to board a plane on or after October 1, 2020, travelers need one of the following: a valid REAL ID, a valid Enhanced ID, or a valid passport.

“We are already seeing fairly long wait times at not only our DMVs but the DMVs around the state, so we really don’t want people waiting until the last minute to get their REAL IDs and start the application process.”

Meredith Terpstra with AAA Minnesota says so far, just over 14-percent Minnesotans have REAL ID-compliant licenses or ID cards. For more information on REAL ID, you can visit the state Department of Vehicle Services website or AAA.com.
