A bill is advancing at the State Capitol that would prohibit smoking in a vehicle when kids under 18 are inside. At a House hearing late Wednesday, Jack, a 12-year-old middle schooler in Mahtomedi testified that he has asthma…

“One thing that definitely triggers my asthma is cigarette smoke, I cannot be around it, I’m sure there are a lot of kids with asthma who have the same reaction. I think not smoking in the car is a no brainer, whether you have asthma-like me or not, no kid should have to breathe in cigarette smoke.”

Anti-tobacco advocates say about one in four Minnesota kids is still subject to 2nd-hand smoke in vehicles.
