DFL Representative Rena Moran says a plan at the State Capitol to remove a reference to slavery from the state constitution is long overdue and will have a significant impact beyond changing some words…

“This amendment also affords us to change to more broadly recognize any deep disparities that exist right here in Minnesota. there are stark differences between the opportunities available for people of color and their white counterparts.”

Moran says as the great, great-granddaughter of slaves, the issue is personal to her. Lawmakers are proposing removing the language through a Minnesota Constitutional Amendment. If the measure passes in the House and Senate, the question would be submitted to voters in the 2020 November general election
