First District Minnesota Congressman Jim Hagedorn disclosed Wednesday that he was diagnosed with stage-four kidney cancer about a year ago and has received treatment at Rochester’s Mayo Clinic.   57-year-old Hagedorn says in a video on his website:

“I’m happy to report that I’m feeling great.   I’ve continued to do my job in Congress unimpeded, and have not missed even a single vote due to treatment….   I will continue to fight cancer, and fight for America and for southern Minnesotans.”

Hagedorn’s doctor says he has “responded well to immunotherapy, which has been key to his recovery. He is doing well.” Hagedorn says he got the diagnosis two months after marrying state Republican Party Chair Jennifer Carnahan, and just six weeks into his term as congressman.   He says, “Guided by the Good Lord’s healing hands, the treatments are helping my body’s immune system identify and kill the cancer cells.” Hagedorn says he’s a candidate for re-election.
