A peaceful protest is planned for tomorrow in response to the impeachment trial of President Trump.
It is put on by the group Indivisible St. Peter/Greater Mankato.
On Wednesday, February 5 at 5:30 PM, local citizens will gather at Minnesota Square Park in St. Peter for a rally as part of the nationwide “Reject the CoverUp!” day of action. The St. Peter rally will be one of the hundreds occurring across the US.
In a press release Indivisible St. Peter/ Greater Mankato says that “We, the citizens of Southern Minnesota, demand:
Accountability: Trump and the Senators and members of Congress who voted to cover up his crimes will be held accountable by their constituents.
Democracy: Now more than ever, we need to ensure a free and fair election in 2020, which means real election security reform and an end to voter suppression. The evidence for impeachment shows that Trump tried to cheat in the 2020 election, and there’s no reason to think he won’t continue trying.
Reform: Just like after Watergate, we demand structural reforms to end the corruption and abuses of power that allowed Donald Trump’s criminal behavior in the first place.
It’s up to us to mobilize like never before, and ensure that this dark moment in the history of our nation is followed by an unprecedented level of citizen activism. ”
Activists will use #RejectTheCoverUp to engage communities on social media.
The rally will start at 5:30 pm on Wednesday, February 5.
