State Representative Jack Considine of Mankato says state government needs to do more to assist home health aid workers.
“I find it an embarrassment to the state that we reimburse at such a low rate that these people are making between 11 and 12 dollars per hour,” said Considine. “We are balancing the budget on their backs. They’re using food stamps to feed their own children.”
Considine was asked what the state needs to do about the issue.
“We probably need to raise some taxes,” said Considine. “Last year there was a small increase for the folks that do it in the SCIU union but I talked to some folks locally that didn’t receive that increase, so we have to make we make the organizations whole as well.”
The Minnesota legislative session begins on February 11th.
