Earlier this month, the Mankato school board approved a tiered busing system beginning next school year. Superintendent Paul Peterson says while crowded buses was the impetus behind the decision, there were other factors as well.
“Including the amount of time students were on a bus,” said Peterson. “We had some students that were on buses for over an hour. We also received feedback of students being on the same bus as other students in their age group.”
To enact the tiered busing system, a new daily schedule will be put in place featuring different start and end times for elementary through high schoolers. That daily schedule will be approved at the January board meeting.
