A proposal to construct a 117-room Marriott Springhill Suites Hotel in Downtown   Mankato went before the city’s Economic Development Authority earlier this week. City officials say developer Gordon Awsumb’s plan would place guest rooms on the upper three floors of a five-story building constructed into a two-level parking ramp along Cherry Street. Mankato city manager Pat Hentges was asked what’s next in the process related to the potential development.

“The plan will need to be finalized so it can be reviewed by the planning commission,” said Hentges. “We’re also finishing up a parking value study to see how much that ramp is actually worth. We’re also going to need to figure out how much parking will need to be replaced.”

No specific timetable regarding the project has been stated publicly.
