An area lawmaker is encouraged by the news of a one-point-three billion dollar budget surplus. State officials released their budget forecast Thursday. State Senator Rich Draheim (Dray-heim) of Madison Lake says the money needs to go back to taxpayers.
“Most of the people I talked to after the news came out told me they would like their tax dollars back,” said Draheim. “If we leave it at the capitol, we’ll spend it.”
Draheim says even with the healthy budget forecast, he prefers a cautious approach on bonding. He says the state spends more on debt services than it does on bonding.
