U.S. Senator Tina Smith has reached out to the Secretary of Agriculture, Sonny Perdue asking why 95-percent of the top county payment rates went to farmers in the southern United States:

 

“You know I’m all for all farmers getting help but crops like cotton, for example, haven’t even seen a price decline compared to what we’ve seen with corn and soybeans. So this is unacceptable when Minnesota farmers are just getting pennies on the bushel for the damage that’s been done.”

 

Smith says the ongoing trade disputes continue to affect farmers and action needs to be taken sooner rather than later.
