Mankato public safety has once again put up a wreath outside the city’s public safety center for the holiday season. Sean Hayes is a Marshall with Mankato public safety.

“That wreath is a reminder of associated fire risks in the Holiday season,” said Hayes. “Anytime there is a preventable structure fire or injury we change the color.”

Hayes says authorities see an uptick in cooking fires this time of year. He offers some tips to prevent such fires.

“Make sure you never cook unattended, remove all flammable or combustible materials from the cooking area and to take a few moments to make sure things are as safe as possible,” said Hayes.

Hayes also reminds residents who have real Christmas trees to make sure they’re watered continuously.
