The National Weather Service office in Chanhassen is increasing its projection for snowfall for the winter storm expected to hit the area later today. Tyler Hasenstein is with the National Weather Service.
“Our updated forecast is calling for the area to be in an eight-to-twelve inch range as compared to the six-to-nine inch range, ” said Hasenstein.
Hasenstein says winds are expected to pick up with the front moving in.
“We could be looking at winds of 25 to 35 miles per hour with gusts to 45,” said Hasenstein. “But due to the wet nature of the snow that will prevent significant blowing due to temperatures being around 30 degrees.”
The area will go into a winter storm warning beginning at six p.m. this evening.
