A New Ulm man is charged in western Wisconsin not only with drunken driving but also for having hand-painted, fake license plates on his vehicle. Cops pulled over 27-year-old Nicholas Layton last Friday night after he’d been spotted weaving through downtown Chippewa Falls. Layton failed a field sobriety test and his plates came back as not registered to the vehicle – and in fact, they were hand-painted on the back of a Hamm’s beer box – but quite realistic. Layton has a court date scheduled for April 7th.
