The Mankato City Council will consider a capital improvement project to stabilize the bank at the Land of Memories Park on the Minnesota River at its meeting (Tuesday) night. The council will look to order a bid for the project estimated at 897-thousand dollars. City officials say the stabilization project is needed because 58 feet of riverbank has been lost in the last ten years. The city says Well 15, which represents about 40 percent of the firm drinking water supply for the city is located in that area. Mankato representatives say they have applied for state funding for the project through a potential bonding bill, but that funding won’t be available until next July.
