Minnesota’s shotgun deer season will begin Saturday. Joe Stangel is a DNR Assistant Regional Wildlife Manager based in New Ulm. He says with the wet year the state has had, hunters should check to see if the land they’re planning to hunt on is accessible.

“We encourage you to check out our website to see if there are any visitor alerts,” said Stangel. ” We have a lot of roads that have been washed out due to flooding so it’s best to make sure you can access the public land you want to hunt.”

Stangel also encourages hunters to become familiar with the rules and regulations regarding chronic wasting disease, especially related to transporting carcasses
