Lawmakers recently traveled around the state reviewing potential projects for a bonding bill. State representative Jeff Brand of Saint Peter sees the idea as a way for the state to help out communities with necessary projects.

“The bottom line is we don’t need to pass a bonding bill,” said Brand. “It’s not like a budget so we don’t have to do it to preserve government services but it would allow us to help communities with some difficult situations and with economic development initiatives.”

Brand says he hopes an agreement can be reached early in the session, but admits Republicans and Democrats are far apart on much should be borrowed.
