The Minnesota legislative bonding committee visited Mankato earlier this week. Mankato mayor Najwa Massad says they’re asking for the state’s help in flood protection.

“We took them to the Land of Memories,” said Massad. “Our water well is near there. With the flooding erosion, we have lost 17 feet since July so it’s getting very close to the well.”

Massad says she appreciates lawmakers visiting sites that are asking for the state’s assistance.

“You can talk as much as you want, but for lawmakers to visually see our request meant a lot,” said Massad.

The challenge will be how much money will be available. Senate Republicans say the number will be around seven hundred million dollars, while House Democrats want to see possibly up to 3.5 billion dollars.
