Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan and Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) Commissioner Steve Grove will host a roundtable discussion about the child care shortage in the state and announce Child Care Economic Development Grant recipients. They will be in Mankato today at 12:30 at Cultivate Mankato.


Currently, there is a need for nearly 80,000 additional child care openings around the state to meet the needs of Minnesota families. The DEED child care grants are one way the state is working to address the child care shortage.


Representative Jeff Brand; Representative Jack Considine, Jr.; City of Mankato Mayor Najwa Massad; Candice Deal-Bartell, Director and Founder of Cultivate Mankato Child Care Center; Rae Jean Hansen, Vice President – Early Childhood, Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation will also be in attendance.
