VINE Faith in Action, in partnership with Mankato Clinic and Juniper is offering a free program for those suffering from a chronic lung condition. Living Well with Chronic Conditions will help adults with chronic lung diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), emphysema, chronic bronchitis and asthma gain skills to improve their health and maintain an active and fulfilling life while living with a chronic health condition.
Classes are held Thursday from 1-3 pm at the VINE Adult Community Center, October 31 – December 12. Class facilitators will offer support, education and tools to use to improve health, including stress reduction, appropriate exercises, food choices, effective communication and action planning.
This program does not replace existing treatments, but rather complements the care already received from healthcare providers. Although chronic lung diseases are not curable, by practicing skills and techniques discussed in class participants can reduce symptoms and breathe better. With proper self-management, most people with chronic lung diseases can maintain a fulfilling and active life.
The program is free and open to the public. Registration is required. For more information or to register contact VINE’s Health and Wellness Program Manager, Karen Christy at (507) 386-5589.
