A group of pro-life activists and lawmakers say Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison for political reasons is not defending the state’s 24-hour abortion waiting period as strongly as he should. Republican Representative Tim Miller from Prinsburg says Ellison didn’t file the most effective legal motion in response to a lawsuit:
“By not coming forward with this defense, are you being deceitful or are you being inept, when you said that you would present a vigorous defense?”
A spokesman for Ellison responds the attorney general’s office made what in their judgment are the most pervasive arguments to the court. The lawsuit challenges the state’s 24-hour abortion waiting period, parental notification law and other measures.
