Progress on an assistance program for those who can’t afford insulin remains stalemated at the State Capitol, despite Governor Tim Walz and Democrats making another round of overtures to Senate Republicans.
The sticking-point still appears to be whether the pharmaceutical industry will help pay for the program so the state budget doesn’t pick up the entire cost. We asked Governor Walz if he would sign a bill that doesn’t have a fee on drug makers:
“I’m not gonna shut the door to anything before the negotiations happen. I’ve expressed my opinion that I think the pharmaceutical companies need to pay for this.”
Walz went on to say:
“I don’t think there’s a lot of percentage of me negotiating against myself on things. This is a bit of that but, to help the process along, present it, and then I will decide. I’m not gonna pre-judge on this.”
