More and more scammers are targeting business owners and their employees across Minnesota with fraudulent emails. Bess Ellenson with the Better Business Bureau says scam-related email volume was up 50-percent in the first three months of 2019 than in 2018.
“The fraudsters are getting more and more believable and that is why we think people are falling victim to them.”
Ellenson says they are often targeting employees within the accounting department of a business, trying to get them to pay money that is not owed. Ellenson says the easiest step: always confirm with your boss if the email originated from a trusted source and the claim is legitimate.
