September is National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month:
“Unfortunately, the rate of suicides is going up. Increasing both in Minnesota and across the country. And it’s a very disturbing trend.”
NAMI Minnesota’s Sue Abderholden says thoughts of suicide can emerge in people regardless of age, gender, race and socioeconomic status:
“It is definitely more men than a woman — although more women attempt. But we are seeing it across more age groups.”
If you are worried or concerned about a person don’t be afraid to talk openly and honestly with the person. They should always be taken seriously.
