Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar is responding to a family member of a 9/11 victim who called her out on the anniversary of the attacks last week:

“I certainly could not understand the weight of the pain that the victims of the families of 9/11 must feel.”

Omar was responding to Nicholas Haros, the son of a woman who died in the World Trade Center attack. Last week while speaking at the memorial, Haros wore a shirt with the words “Some people did something,” which was a reference to comments Omar had previously made. Haros singled out Omar, saying, “Today I am here to respond to you exactly who did what to whom.” Omar responded:

“As a Muslim, not only was I suffering as an American who was attacked on that day but the next day I woke up as my fellow Americans were now treating me a suspect.”

Omar appeared on the CBS program “Face The Nation” yesterday.
