120 Years of Community: A Stroll Through History Walking Tour

Take a self-guided walking tour of historical sites in lower North Mankato! The walking tour as listed is around 2.3 miles and takes about 35 minutes to complete. Historical sites include: Old Municipal Building, Belltower Apartments, Marigold Dairy, Otto Nietge House, A.L. Wheeler House and more! Visit City Hall or the Taylor Library to pick up your walking tour brochure.

Back to School Bookmark Contest

Pick up your entry form at the North Mankato Taylor Library for this year’s bookmark contest! Submit your design by Monday, August 26th for a chance to have your bookmark printed for people to take from our bookmark selection! There will be one winner from each age group (Ages 12 and under and ages 13 and older). Bookmarks will be available in September 2019.

Comic Book Workshop

Do you like to read Calvin and Hobbes? Babymouse? Dogman?  Do you like to write?  Have you ever drawn a character from different angles?  In this class, you’ll learn different tools, such as creative writing exercises and drawing tips, which will help you create a comic character. Please bring a pencil, notebook and/or sketchbook, and anything else you like to draw or write with. Registration required. Registration opens August 13th. Open to ages 7-12 at 10am and ages 13-18 at 2pm. “This project is made possible by a grant provided by the Traverse des Sioux Library Cooperative and was funded in part or in whole with money from Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage fund.”

Cosmic Oil Pastels

Using oil pastels, draw your favorite part of the cosmos! Oil Pastels and sample pictures from outer space will be provided to help you make your piece of art! Stop in anytime between 2-4pm to make yours! Open to ages 11-18. No registration required.

Pizza and snacks in the library followed by being split into teams who will then race to find clues that will give them instructions for tasks they need to complete in the park. First team to complete all of the tasks will win a prize! Open to ages 9-18. Registration required. Registration opens August 16th.
