Anti-gun-violence legislation remains in limbo at the State Capitol despite this week’s calls by Governor Tim Walz for hearings in the GOP-controlled Minnesota Senate. Republican Senator Andrew Lang from Olivia contends mental health measures are key:
“This is a societal issue that we look at from all different aspects, and if we leave mental health out of it…. if we leave criminal background out of it, if we left any of those pieces out of it, I don’t think we’re really looking at the problem as a whole.”
But Lang adds universal background checks or a so-called “red flag” law would not have prevented the mass shootings in Texas and Ohio.
