There will be a statewide test today of the Minnesota Blue Alert System. (1:10 p.m.) BCA Superintendent Drew Evans says the legislature established Blue Alert in 2015 as a tool to help locate suspects when a local, state or federal officer is killed or seriously wounded in the line of duty:

“This system was designed so that when we are looking for a suspect we can utilize really our best partner in this the general public — to have their eyes open to look for people and information that may help us lead to the apprehension of that suspect.”

A Blue Alert is similar to an Amber Alert. Evans says there have been no Blue Alert activations since its inception.
