A lawsuit alleging that the Anoka-Hennepin School District discriminated against a transgender student is moving forward–with the State Human Rights Department’s involvement. Deputy Commissioner Irina Vaynerman says the suit is about more than just one student’s civil rights.

The suit alleges Anoka-Hennepin–Minnesota’s largest school district–barred the student from using the boys’ locker room, forcing him to use segregated changing facilities–resulting in bullying and threats against his family. Anoka-Hennepin school officials have not commented.
