Hennepin County is now the 39th Minnesota city or county to raise their tobacco sale age to 21.
“Once implemented, 1.5 million Minnesotans will be covered by Tobacco 21, which is nearly 28% of the population, obviously we want to get it to 100%, and we’ll continue working toward that goal.”
Laura Smith with ClearWay Minnesota says protecting kids from addiction is a top priority statewide. Hennepin County commissioners on Tuesday voted 6-1 to raises the tobacco sale age and restrict the sale of all flavored tobacco products including menthol to adult-only tobacco stores. The policy goes into effect on January 1, 2020.
