2018 Minnesota Teacher of the Year, Kelly Holstine, is now working with the L-G-B-T-Q civil rights group OutFront Minnesota to help educators decrease inequity and increase inclusivity in schools. Kelly Holstine says it involves…

“Working with youth, working with adults who work directly with youth, but also involving educational policymakers, educational leaders and groups and community members in groups so that everyone is onboard and feels supported.”

Holstine–who resigned from her job in Shakopee public schools–is a gender non-conforming lesbian. She says she’s been traveling around the state and the nation and feels passionate about creating a support network for educators around L-G-B-T-Q issues.
