In recognition and celebration of Roger Bergquist’s 30 years as a volunteer (paid on-call) firefighter, it’s a good time to honor and reflect on his qualifications and important contributions to public safety.
Volunteers are an integral component of Mankato’s combination public safety system and are key to positive fire suppression outcomes and safety achievement rating.
The city of Mankato offers two unique opportunities for fire service:
- Non-resident program for community members who spend several nights per month staffing the stations.
- Resident program for community members who live at the fire station and staff it in exchange for rent.
Volunteers are compensated through stipend or housing depending on staffing. Those interested are welcome to tour facilities, ride the engines and ask questions.
