Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon calls the U-S Supreme Court’s ruling on congressional redistricting “disappointing” and says looking ahead…

“Our marching order is clear, the Supreme Court has shut the door to any federal constitutional action to curb overly political redistricting and so now we know there is one big door open state action at the state level by state legislatures and Minnesota should help lead the way.”

Simon is pushing for an independent commission to designate retired judges to draw the congressional districting map and put it up for a vote at the state legislature. The high court on Thursday ruled that federal courts should not decide congressional district lines.
