A Mankato woman who damaged a sculpture on the CityArt Walking Sculpture Tour in May is charged with a felony.

23-year-old Kaitlyn Erdmann is charged with first-degree damage to property.

Erdmann came forward after police showed surveillance video of her carrying part of the statue’s baby that was taken from the arms of its mother, according to court documents. It happened on May 16.

Erdman took sole responsibility even though the video showed another woman with her at the time

Erdmann said she had been at downtown bars and broke the statue while climbing on it to take a photo, according to the court documents.

The statue, which was valued at over $5,000, could not be repaired. It has been replaced with a different one.
