When the Twins kick off their nine-game homestand tomorrow(Tues) the first of two new security measures go into effect. Twins spokesman Matt Hoy says when fans enter the ballpark personal items like cellphones, keys and wallets can remain in pockets. He says the magnetometers can now detect these items:
“When Target Field opened and we experienced all the sellouts that we did for the first couple of years, we weren’t in such a high state of security. We didn’t have the walkthrough magnetometers and we didn’t have to search every bag that came into the facility. And obviously, over time and those policies and requirements from baseball have changed.”
And starting July 5th, only single-compartment bags (maximum 16x16x8 inches) will be allowed in the ballpark. Backpacks and multicompartment laptop bags won’t be permitted.
