In MNN’s final look at the 2018 Minnesota Homeless study, Brian Pittman with Wilder Research says the numbers released this month says despite an overall increase of 10% in the homeless population, one group did see a drop from the last study.

“One good thing we actually saw families decrease by 5 percent, but even with that, children and youth still make up about 46 percent of the overall homeless population that we’ve counted.”

Pittman says much of the younger homeless population reported similar stories of experiencing some sort of trauma both before and during their periods of homelessness. A full report on the data and interviews collected during the study is due out this fall.
