State traffic safety officials are launching a 90-day pilot project to help prevent drivers from running red lights.

“We’ve all seen it, the people that are maybe late to work, in a hurry, maybe distracted by their phone and they blow through a red light almost causing a serious or significant crash, those people we believe need to be held accountable.”

Bruce Gordon with the Department of Public Safety. The State Patrol will use a video technology system for on-site violation enforcement. The pilot project will be located at the intersection of Highway 15 and 2nd Street in St. Cloud, one of the most dangerous intersections in the state. The project begins on June 1st.
