Republicans in the Minnesota House say they want a role and more transparency in finalizing the state budget if Democrats want their help to fast-track important bills during a special session planned for later this week. G-O-P Minority Leader Kurt Daudt:
“I’m not going to stand for this dark-of-night making decisions behind closed doors with no one knowing what’s in the bill. The authors of the bills didn’t know what was in the bills.”
House Speaker, Democrat Melissa Hortman responds:
“There have to be some private conversations to close the deal, but we have been pushing for as much to be in public as possible.”
Legislative leaders are hoping to have the state budget wrapped up in a special session before the Memorial Day weekend.
