Lawmakers in Wisconsin’s Assembly (House) on Wednesday honored Jayme Closs as a “hometown hero.” Her aunt, Jen Smith, accepted the award on her niece’s behalf:

“Jayme is totally deserving of the ‘hero’ part of this award. Her courage, her bravery and her spirit are things that inspire us and make us stronger and better.”

Jayme’s parents were murdered and she was then held against her will for three months in northern Wisconsin, before escaping her kidnapper in January. Jayme is back in her hometown of Barron, Wisconsin.
