Attorney General Keith Ellison says his office is getting more and more calls from Minnesota consumers reporting that their mental health claims are being denied by insurance companies.

“This is something we’re quite concerned about, if you as a citizen of our state are getting denied for your mental health claims, the Minnesota attorney general’s office wants to know about it.”

Under the Mental Health Parity Act, health plans are supposed to apply similar rules to mental health and substance use disorder benefits as they do to physical health benefits. Ellison encourages consumers who feel they have been treated unfairly to contact his office.
