A zinger amendment Minnesota Senate Republicans put on a major transportation funding bill last night (Wed) frames a major difference with Governor Tim Walz:

Last March the governor visited a dangerous rail crossing in Republican Senator Jim Abeler’s Anoka district, saying a gas tax increase will help fix it. Abeler responded last night with an amendment requiring MN-DOT erect signs there:

“The warning signs would say this: ‘Warning! Dangerous Rail Crossing! This crossing is not currently scheduled for repair. Call Governor Walz with your concerns at 800-657-3717.'”

Minneapolis Democrat Scott Dibble responded:

“I think what would be more appropriate is to have any local legislator who hasn’t seen fit to support adequate funding for our transportation system in some time, to have *their* phone number placed on this sign.”
