The DNR is reminding boaters to wear life jackets this spring.

“We’re definitely getting into the season where everyone’s anxious to get out on the water and during this time, 30% of our boating fatalities happen in the cold water and in addition to that, the victim is, in the majority of time, not wearing a life jacket.”

The DNR’s Lisa Dugan says even though air temperatures continue to rise, water temperatures statewide are still dangerously cold – cold enough to cause the gasp reflex and incapacitate even strong swimmers in less than one minute.
